Carlow v North Kildare Cricket Club Men's 4th XI on Sun 05 Jun 2016 at 1.00pm
North Kildare Cricket Club Won By 27 Runs

Match report You wait ages for a bus and of course 2 come at the same time!! The same can be said of the fourths after a brilliant win in Carlow. Carlow only 2 weeks ago had beaten us by 8 wickets so this was a crucial win.

I suspect most reading this report have never been to Carlow's ground as they are a new club. All I'll say is whatever complaints you have about the likes of Bagnelstown, Wexford etc Carlow pales in comparison. A floodlight 10 yards behind either end of the crease made life tough for bowlers with long run ups. The outfield hadn't seen a mower in a while. At one point a Carlow batsmen attempted to hit a 4 down leg. However the ball became stuck in the outfield and we lost sight of it for a second

Anyway onto the game. The skipper elected to bat first. Hans and Farhan were sent to open. Hans fell early. Cathal came in and steadied the ship and then was clean bowled. Shahid came in and in typical Shahid fashion went after the Carlow bowlers. Farhan reached his maiden half century and was soon run out running a 2 which was barely a single. Robbie came in and scored a few before departing. Raj was in next and he made quick runs. In the meantime Shahid reached his maiden century for the club. Both Shahid and Raj were out with about 10 balls to go. This saw Matthew Bond and the skipper enter the fray. Both added a few runs onto the score which finished at 247

We had seen how good Carlow's opening batsmen were in the last match so we knew an early wicket was needed. That wicket didn't come until the 11th over however 8 overs later another 3 wickets were taken by Raj and Arsalan which saw Carlow on 120 for 4. Just below the run rate. The 5th wicket took a while to come. 9 overs to be precise. At this point the tide was in Carlow's favour. They needed 59 runs with 10 overs and 5 wickets in hand. The ball was trusted to Matthew and we had another wicket. Game on!! The pressure became too much for Carlow as their last 4 wickets fell in 4 overs, 3 for Raj and another for Matthew.

2 wins in a row for the Fourths see us going into next Sunday's home game with Greystones on the up and back in contention in the league
