Pembroke 2 v North Kildare Cricket Club Men's 1st XI on Sat 13 Jun 2015 at 13.00
North Kildare Cricket Club Won By 41 Runs (22/25pts)

Match report The firsts traveled to Sydney Parade to face a Pembroke side who were tipped to win the league before the season started. The firsts - in great form - were confident they could get their third league win on the board and push themselves up the table.

Neavyn won the toss once again and chose to bat on a grass wicket that looked like it had plenty in it for both batsman and bowler. This was apparent in Manny's dismissal. Bob and Manny had started nicely and the ball appeared to be coming onto the bat nicely. That was until Manny had one nip off the seam and just graze the inside edge on the way through to the keeper - indicating the success a bowler could have when putting the ball in the right areas. Manny's dismissal resulted in the biggest stand of the game between in-form Bob and the in-form PR - nice to be able to say that about two of the top three in a batting lineup. PR was given a couple of chances early doors and went on to make the opposition pay for their errors. Bob went about his business quietly at the other end - a partnership brewing and a platform being built for another big total. The pair had just reached a hundred stand when PR called Bob through for a quick single which resulted in Bob's dismissal thanks to a sharp piece of fielding from Robin Kelly. Bob fell just 6 short of a well-deserved half century, but the pair had already set up the North Kildare innings beautifully putting 120 (their stand worth 102) on the board in just the 23rd over for the loss of just two wickets. Dollars and Imran came and went relatively quickly and Paul was eventually dismissed, but not before he had racked up 90 off a mere 80 balls. Although PR did offer a couple of chances, he looked in sublime nick yet again and added to his already impressive run tally for the season. Satch was still at the crease and even though Vossie and Loui couldn't provide any support at the other end, Satch was starting to get going. TS began to accelerate and with help from Matt and Clint Auret who supported Tom brilliantly; Matt adding 49 with Satch and Clint adding 55 for the 9th wicket - NK reached 304-9 in the process. Tom ended with a sensational 77* which was not the typical knock we've come to expect from TS (simply because it wasn't quicker than a run-a-ball). Satch grinded hard at the start of the innings and went from strength to strength and held the NK innings together as his knock progressed while wickets fell around him in the middle of the NK innings.

Judging by previous scorecards at Sydney Parade, 304 seemed to be more than enough and was credit to the NK batting lineup for posting such an imposing total - Bob, PR and Satch taking most of that credit.

The 304 runs Pembroke required looked more like 404 runs when Loui removed both oppo openers in his very first over. Pembroke were immediately on the back foot and NK had started in the best possible manner thanks to Loui. Graham McDonnell and Robin Kelly (two players who have played their fair share of division 1 and underage Irish cricket) were still at the crease though and NK new it was imperative to remove both if they were to bowl their opposition out. Loui obliged once more when he bounced Kelly and popped it straight back to the seamer who was bowling with serious pace and aggression. At 29-3 with the dismissal of Kelly, NK were confident that they could nip out a couple more wickets and dig Pembroke into a hole they couldn't climb out of. Wazzle was brought into the attack and took the two wickets that NK were desperately after, leaving the opposition on 74-5 and NK in a position of total dominance. McDonnell (still at the crease) rapidly changed gears and took the attack back to the NK bowlers. The ex Ireland A representative began to show his class as he completely took apart the NK attack. It wasn't until he had reached 98 until he offered a chance. Vossie was brought into the attack and thought he had his man, but McDonnell was shelled for the first time at deep mid-wicket. McDonnell's dominance resulted in more mistakes from the NK fielders, as he was put down twice after; both off the bowling of Loui. Finally, on 147 - Loui took the pace off, McDonnell sent one into orbit and Vossie finally held on to see the end of an incredible innings which got Pembroke close to victory when it didn't look possible as well as Louis' first five-for, for North Kildare. Some terrific bowling from Matt Auret at the death saw Pembroke eventually come undone; falling just 41 runs short of their target.

Although NK did not make things easy on themselves, they stuck to their task and ended as deserved victors in what was a massive game. Thanks to a wonderful 80 ball 90 from PR, another unbeaten half-century from Tom and a five-for for Loui that left the opposition all at sea - NK had earned themselves a very important victory that set themselves up nicely in the league and for the next day where they faced Merrion in the Senior 2 quarter-final.
