North Kildare Cricket Club Men's 2nd XI v Dundalk 1 on Sun 08 Jun 2014 at 13.30pm
North Kildare Cricket Club Won By 10 wickets

Match report The seconds welcomed Dundalk to the Maws in their first cup game of the year, after getting their season up and running the week before against Longford.

Dollars lost the toss for the first time this season, but it turned out to be an excellent toss to lose. Dundalk elected to bat first but the gulf in class between div.6 and div.8 became more apparent as the innings progressed. When drinks were taken, the visitors had slumped onto a lowly total of 45/5 from 20. After drinks, things didn't change a whole lot and in truth, the quality of the North Kildare attack was a little too much to handle for the opposition. Dundalk were bowled out for a miserable total of 65 all-out thanks to an outstanding fielding and bowling performance from the entire NK 11. Apart from a handful of comical, but trivial fielding errors, NK were at their best with the ball and in the field, making nothing easy for any of the opposition batsmen. All of the NK attack were in the wickets, apart from a bemused Wazzie who may have had four or five within his first five overs if decisions had gone his way.

In reply, Dollars and Jack made short work in chasing their target - a target that can often be underestimated and can sometimes lead to an embarrassing ending, but there was to be no such disillusion in this innings. Both Jack and Dollars went out to the middle, focused and with their eye on a 10-wicket victory. In the end, the seconds cruised to victory by chasing their required total down in just 12 overs. Jack finished on a highly impressive 49*, which was much quicker than a run-a-ball and Dollars played a sneaky captain's knock that saw his team sail smoothly into the next round of the cup. Jack's 49* was his highest score for NK in his short time in the club and shows exactly what the firsts, seconds and thirds will be missing out on while he leaves on his travels around Europe. I can speak on behalf of the whole of NK, that Jack will be missed sorely while he is away, not only for his cricket, but the manner in which he has conducted himself on and off the field. We all look forward to having him return to finish out the last few games of the season.

Next up - the seconds travel to Rush in search of their third win on the bounce, which will well and truly get their season up and running. The last time the two sides met, NK threw away a commanding position on their way to their first loss of the season, but the seconds have come a long way from that result and will look to avenge their previous disappointments.
