North Kildare Cricket Club Men's 1st XI v Civil Service 1 on Sat 09 Aug 2014 at 12:30pm
North Kildare Cricket Club Won By 9 Wkts (25/25pts) [DL]

Match report On a cold and miserable day, the firsts welcomed Civil Service to the Maws in a game that was of utmost importance at the wrong end of the table.

Neayvn lost the toss again and the oppo chose to bat first on the mat. Service got off to a decent start before Imran sent Safeen on his way due to a huge mix-up which resulted in the easiest of run-outs. No. 3, Siddique arrived at the crease and NK had to work hard for his wicket knowing the threat he posed. Gulab was introduced into the attack and it wasn't soon after that he had his man trapped in front to a slightly dubious decision that went in NK's favour, but yet again, Gulab had removed the ever dangerous Siddique. When Siddique's wicket fell, NK continued to take wickets and were lifted after Walshe took an absolute blinder at cover-point to remove opener, Webster. NK went from the exceptional to the poor and were inconsistent in the field - dropping sitters to taking very sharp catches, but kept the run-rate down as well as continually creating chances. Thanks to an all-round good bowling performance from NK, Service were eventually bowled out for a well-below par score of 160. Due to the amount of rainfall, the game was reduced to a 38-over game in which NK bowled Service out on the last ball of their innings. Tea had been taken after the first bad shower, so NK were straight out to bat after their first innings.

Rob and Mark opened up and got NK off to the kind of start that the firsts had been missing at the top of the order in recent weeks. Mark fell unfortunately for 19, just one run shy of their 50 run partnership. Imran (who had to leave in a hurry) was boosted up the order and showed his intent immediately. Rob (going nicely by the time Imran arrived), was exhibiting welcomed form that had been absent for a large chunk of the season and Imran looked as if he was an hour late for a flight. In the end, rain aside, Immy and Rob knocked off NK's target without really breaking a sweat and both brought up 50's in the process. Rob finished on 51*(76) and rekindled the kind of form the firsts will need going forward. Imran (who was in no means hanging around) finished with a magnificent 79*(51) which included 7x4's & 4x'6's.

So - NK record their fourth league win of the season as well as their second in a row. The consistency that has been lacking in the batting lineup in past weeks seems to have left NK's system, as the firsts' batting performances in the last two games have been excellent to say the least.

The firsts will look to follow on from their convincing victory over Service next weekend when they play The Hills away, which would send out a real message of intent if they're to come away with a victory next Sunday.

Asides from cricket - a special mention has to go to Naomi who was happy to score once again on the day before her birthday. Hopefully the night that followed was as sweet as the victory!
