North County 2 v North Kildare Cricket Club Men's 1st XI on Sun 25 May 2014 at 1.00pm
North Kildare Cricket Club Won By 310 Runs (25/25pts)

Match report North Kildare travelled to Inch in their second league game of the season. The last time NK and North County came head-to-head in the league, was in 2010 in what was the closest of contests that went right down to the wire - NK winning by 4 runs, snatching victory from the opposition's hands. In this particular match, there were to be far fewer nails bitten and a little less sweat on the brow of the NK support.

North County won the toss and elected to stick NK in on a grass wicket that was pretty green, but looked to have very few demons within the surface. Before the game got underway, there wasn't really much of an idea as to what a par score was, but with very short boundaries all around the ground and a grass wicket that was new to the NK boys this season, a score of 230+ was deemed to be par.

Things started reasonably well, but North County made the breakthrough in the 7th over, Rob trapped LBW for 9. This brought Manny to the crease and himself and Kishan had the first stand of 50+ in the game. This came to an end as Manny Singh nicked Manny Singh off for 20 and sent him back to the pavillion. Yes - you did read that correctly. Vossie joined Kishan and the pair had a stand of 31, largely due to Kishan's belligerence as he was nearing his century. Vossie was rather aggrieved when he was adjudged LBW, as he felt the ball was going some way over the top, but in truth - with what happened next it may have been a good thing. This brought Imran to the crease and the pair put together another stand of 50+, which was a joy for all to watch. The pair dominated the County attack, with some clean-hitting, incredible timing and just raw strength at times. It was cut short though, when Kishan was bowled by F. Hand, who was the pick of the County attack by a long stretch. Kishan fell just 6 short of what would have been an exceptional and well-deserved ton, demonstrating patience, concentration and sheer quality. Not bad for a man making his first appearance for NK in three years. He reached his 94 from a mere 84 balls with 15 boundaries and 4 sixes included. The score had moved onto 196-4 after 26 overs and at the pace that the scoring was going, NK knew that 300+ was easily attainable. Kishan's demise saw in-form, TS stride to the crease which is never a good sight for any opposition bowling attack. This followed the biggest partnership of the game and one that looked to take NK out of reach. Immy and Satch added 129 together in a sensational stand - Imran taking the attack to the County bowlers and Tom looking to run hard between the wickets. During the partnership, Imran reached his second competitive century for North Kildare in a memorable innings that will go down as one of the great innings for NK. Immy offered chances, but his onslaught was unstoppable as he reached his ton from just 49 balls. His innings sadly came to an end on 124(65) with a whopping total of 15x6's and 4x4's. At 325-5, NK's lower order set about reaching the landmark of 400 in the closing overs. They fell just shy, on 393 all out with an over and a ball to spare. Satch also reached 69 before the close of play, continuing his rich vein of form with the bat as well as a few small contributions from the "tail-end".

Defending such a massive total can sometimes result in a lack of intensity and concentration in the field, as NK have exhibited in previous seasons. However - this was certainly not the case in this game, as the standard with the ball and in the field was exceptional from ball one and paid dividends immediately. After 8 overs, the opposition were already battling at 27-4, due to a rampant Wazzle who was thrown the new ball. Wazzie burst through the top order, claiming the scalps of four of the top-five. Wickets kept tumbling - Wazzle and Satch doing the bulk of the work - Manny, Raza and Ahmad picking up one-a-piece. In the end, North County were bowled out for a modest 83, thanks to a sensational opening spell of bowling from Wazzie right from the off. Looking at the scorecard, there should be no mistake that NK were not handed anything by the opposition, regardless of how big the victory was. Winning by a margin of 310, the result shows how good NK can be, in what was the most complete performance by any team, in any sport I have ever been a part of. The victory also comes on the back of a poor start to the season in the defeat to Clontarf. A victory of this magnitude will send a message of intent to the rest of the division.

The firsts now have a break from the league in the next couple of weeks, as they play Dundrum in the Senior 2 Cup next weekend. The firsts will be well aware that there will be much tougher games as the season progresses and fully aware of the threat Dundrum pose. Dundrum beat NK last season at the Maws, so there will be a certain desire for vengeance, against a team that can be underrated at your peril.

A huge welcome back to Kishan who looked all at sea in his return, scoring 94, taking three catches and grabbing a stumping for himself... Congratulations to Imran with his second ton for the club and for racking up his highest individual score. Imran showed how dangerous he can be, how talented a batsman he is and what happens when a player of his caliber is given chances.
