North Kildare Cricket Club Lost by 15 runs

Match report On a glorious day at the Maws, North Kildare looked to win their second game on the bounce.

Things started exceptionally well, with Vorster FINALLY winning the toss. The all-important toss paid dividends as NK had Railway 14/3 off 3 overs from a perfect first over from Gulab Singh, as well as some excellent fielding from Lucy Small who really set the standard in the field. Railway then knuckled down and found themselves at 91/4 off 19. At this stage, Railway were in position to turn the game right around and post a strong total.. North Kildare had other ideas. Safdar and Sandy came on and ripped through the lower order; Safdar taking three and Sandy bagging himself a couple. Due to the terrific fielding performance from NK (Lucy Small in particular), Railway were constricted to a modest 136 A/O. At this point, both NK openers were licking their lips..

Into NK's innings and it could not have started any worse. With Safdar, Rahman and Ger falling within the first five overs, things were looking bleak to say the least, with the score at 9/3 off five. A stand was needed and a big one at that. Dáire and Vossie steadied the ship until the 12th over, with the score on 23/3. Runs were difficult to come by, but both of the opening bowlers had been seen off - job done? Not by a long shot. Dáire was bowled in an unfortunate manner, after a ball deflected off his pads onto the stumps. Gulab followed the next ball looking to go big, first ball. NK were in a real bind now. With the fall of Gulab's wicket, Sandy came to the crease and showed intent immediately, making things look easy. Unfortunately, his innings was short-lived. Sandy went on to make an impressive 26 - a good start yes, but his innings was cut short with the introduction off S. Kumar. Vossie; still at the crease, ticking along, was running out of partners. This was, until Sajjad joined him. Vossie and Sajjad brought the score within touching distance of the win. Unfortunately, it just wasn't North Kildare's day. Sajjad fell with the score on 119/9, NK only needing 18 runs to win. Lucy came to the crease and kept everything out, but Vossie fell, clipping one to mid-wicket, 15 runs short of the target.

A tough day for North Kildare, but many lessons can be taken from the defeat, as well as the consistency in the field that NK have shown in the last few weeks.

Another thanks to Gerry for scoring for us again. These things tend to go un-noticed, but are greatly appreciated.
