Mullingar v North Kildare Cricket Club Men's 1st XI on Sat 14 Jul 2012 at 1.00
North Kildare Cricket Club Won By 1 Wicket (20/25pts)

Match report It was back to Mullingar for the 1sts on Saturday for an important Div 4 encounter for both sides. NK were looking to break their apparent hoodoo over this opposition after 3 consecutive defeats to them and to reignite their promotion hopes and Mullingar were looking for their 1st league win of the season. The 1sts welcomed back skipper Satchwell after his extended holiday to bolster their bowling attack and batting line-up. Tom lost the toss and oppo skipper Daragh Ryan decided he'd have a bat first.

Satchwell quickly got back into the groove bowling oppo opener Condell early doors and the 1sts had gotten off to an ideal start. 14-1. There followed a rapid stand of 50 between no.2 Ejaz and no.3 A. Haider thanks largely to an aggressive approach from Ejaz. Haider was given a second life at one point when a straightforward chance off Satchwell was put down behind the stumps. Thankfully this didn't prove too costly as Haider eventually fell for just 10 when stitched lbw by Wasif Ali. 64-2. A stand of 21 followed before NK finally dismissed Ejaz (45) caught in the deep by Vorster off the bowling of Safdar Hussein. A classic case of a straightforward catch taken dramatically this one with Vossy executing a ludricous diving jump for THE CAMERA. Important catch nonetheless. It was after this wicket that NK really began to control things thanks in no small part to excellent spells of off spin bowling from Safdar and Manjeet Singh. Safdar bagged a deserved 2nd wicket when he trapped oppo skipper D. Ryan lbw (although Ryan may have been a little unlucky here) and Ehsan Dar promptly produced an excellent direct hit to run out oppo no.4 Woody O'Neill to leave 'Gar in trouble on 92-5 having been 85-2. The oppo, despite their best efforts, never really got their innings going again after these quick dismissals. A few half-knocks ensued before Mullingar were eventually bowled out for 177 with Satchwell finishing things off after he found the edge of the oppo no.11 and Neavyn snatched the chance one-handed in great style. Pick of the bowlers for Kildare were undoubtedly Manny Singh and Safdar Hussein. Wasif Ali also produced good figures and Ehsan Dar bowled a tidy spell of 6 overs.

Kildare were confident at tea of chasing down a relatively easy looking target of 178. Neavyn was soon on his way however when he was bizarrely adjudged lbw to one that was going at least a half foot over the top of the stumps. To be frank Neavyn was a bit fortunate to still be there after he got away with a couple of loose shots and a run out chance. 11-1. Not an ideal start. Walshe and Manny Singh then put on a steady stand of 33 and both looked comfortable before Walshe surprised everyone by hitting a full toss off oppo spinner O'Neill straight to square-leg. This was the kind of delivery that Walshe usually would do one thing to and one thing only, whack it for four. 44-2. Satchwell was playing himself in nicely before O'Neill got one to turn and the NK skip was on his way clean bowled. Shokeenda followed immediately in identical fashion. 68-4. Game on. Thankfully Manny Singh was still there and looking in good touch, which is not unusual for Tendul.........Manny. Vorster and Gilmour added 26 runs with him before both fell to leave the 1sts really struggling now on 94-6. A partnership was needed badly. Safdar Hussein obliged hanging in their with Manny for 40 more runs before a disastrous looking double loss in the 36th over. Both Safdar and Wasif Ali fell and Kildare were on the ropes on 134-8. Another partnership needed. Manny, now past 50, and Zak Khan got the 1sts off the ropes with a stand of 26 when disaster struck once more. SINGH RUN OUT! Heads hit hands. 18 needed and 1 wicket remains. Hoodoo strikes again. We're doomed, doomed I tells ye! Zak Khan and Ehsan Dar kept their cool however getting the required runs down to just 5. Ehsan slaps a 4 through the off side and thinks its all over! Ye still need a single mate! Scampered single later and the game is won. Easy chase.

Manjeet Singh 77 off 93 balls. Another classy innings to add to the collection and in this case very much a match winning one.
