The 1sts made it 2 wins out of 2 in Division 4 with a convincing 107 run victory over visitors Pembroke. Captain Satchwell won the toss and elected to bat, so out to the middle strode NK openers Neavyn and Walshe determined to improve on their opening stand of just 21 against Oakhill in the season opener. And this they did, adding 62 before Neavyn fell in the 17th over when a tickle off his hip was well caught down leg by the oppo keeper. So off Neavyn grumbled to be replaced by Manny Singh who immediately got off the mark with a single. Singh and Walshe added a further 71 runs before both fell in quick succession. First to go was Walshe when he pulled the spinner straight to mid-wicket and in the next over Singh was excellently caught & bowled by the oppo skipper Raj. The loss of Singh was a big blow for Kildare as he looked in great touch in making his 40 off as many balls. Satchwell and Dalton consolidated for a time, adding 33, before Dalton fell caught at slip in the 39th. Satchwell tucked into the spinner in the 40th with a couple maximums, raising the 1sts hopes of maybe getting close to a total of 250 but these hopes suffered a blow in the 41st when the Kildare skipper edged one through to the keeper and was on his way for 27. Try as Vorster and particularly Ali might to hit the boundaries in the remaining few overs it just didn't happen for the pair with just the one 4 to Ali in their stand of 36 off 35 balls before Vorster fell in the penultimate over to another excellent caught & bowled effort. Shokeenda and Ali added another 9 runs off the final 11 balls as NK finished on a slightly below par looking total of 224-6.

The 1sts would of liked another 20 or 30 runs to defend but knew a sound performance with the ball and in the field would render their total good enough. When Wasif Ali surprised oppo opener Cunningham with a short one in the 2nd over the 1sts had made the perfect start. Cunningham edged it through to Neavyn and was gone for 1 and Kildare had made the early breakthrough. By the 10th over the 1sts had claimed a couple more oppo scalps. Satchwell produced a yorker to trap the oppo no.3 lbw and Ali picked up his second and proved there's nothing wrong with his reaction speed when he dismissed the oppo no.4 with a sharp catch of his own bowling. So with 10 overs down Kildare were looking good with Pembroke struggling on 34-3. Enter oppo skipper Raj. Raj, an aggressive hard hitting bat, smashed his way to 49 off a mere 28 balls with, to be frank, some pretty damn good shots off deliveries that would not generally be considered bad. Another 10 overs of Raj Attack and Kildare would have been in a bit of trouble. Shiv Sethi thankfully had a trick up his sleeve to send Raj on his way. A classic delivery got Raj stretching forward to defend, when the ball pitched and spun about a foot or more a gap in the oppo skippers defense was exposed and he was on his way clean bowled. After this timely breakthrough the 1sts strolled to victory with the remaining oppo batsmen struggling to play the spin of Sethi and particularly Manny Singh. All 4 of Singhs wickets came from catches in the outfield. One to Gilmour at mid-off. One a dolly to Ali at mid-wicket and another for Ali that definitely wasn't a dolly. Oppo no.10 Farrington entertained everyone bar Singh when he walloped one over the trees only to sky the next delivery towards mid-wicket where Ali took a brilliant catch running backwards. Singh finished things off when he removed the oppo no.9 to another good catch, this time for Satchwell at mid on.

So 2 wins from 2 for the 1sts and with 49 out of a possible 50 pts in the bag it looks like Kildare will finish May atop Division 4. Some cup action coming up for the 1sts before league duties resume in 3 weeks with a home encounter against Phoenix.
