NK 1sts got their season off to an excellent start with a very comfortable 99 run victory over visitors Oak Hill. Batting first, NK posted a pretty big total of 323 thanks mostly to an awesome 59 ball 113 from Ul-Haq, which included 11x4s and 7x6s no less. After Walshe and Vorster fell early on, Neavyn was joined at the crease by debutant Rahman Ahmed and together they put on a solid stand of 68 before Ahmed was out caught attempting a big hit. His 41 came off just 44 balls and included some classy shots through the leg-side. Another 25 was added by Neavyn and Ul-Haq before Neavyn also fell caught attempting a bit hit, perhaps frustrated by the lack of value he was getting for his shots on the slow outfield. 132-4. Then came a huge stand of 133 between Ul-Haq and Dalton. Ul-Haq blasted the hapless Oak Hill change bowlers to all parts and reached his 50 off just 33 balls and then faced only another 22 balls to reach his ton. Meanwhile Dalton was offering excellent support and he played no shortage of classy shots himself, especially when driving through the off-side. Ul-Haq eventually fell with the score on 265. Dalton continued on till the end of the innings making an unbeaten 53 off just 57 balls. Ali, Shokeenda and Gilmour all chipped in with quick runs towards the end of the innings to get the total up to 323.

Remarkably Oak Hill lost only 1 wicket in their reply although they never really threatened to reach their target. After excellent opening spells of 6 overs each from Wasif Ali and Daire O'Neill Oak Hill had only reached a score of 28 so the game was pretty much over as a contest. Vorster took the only wicket when he bounced out S. Rice with O'Neill taking a straightforward catch running in from square-leg. There followed an unbeaten stand of 184 between N. Fusco and Fitzsimons. All of the bowlers bowled well and perhaps had a decision or two gone the 1sts way a few more wickets would have fallen. Ul-Haq was the most expensive of the bowlers but this was largely down to just one over. All in all it was a fairly solid performance from NK in the field with plenty of energy and hard work throughout.

In the end Oak Hill reached a total of 224 to snatch a point and deny NK a maximum point victory.

So a great start to the season for the 1sts who will be looking to make it 2 wins out of 2 in the league against Pembroke on May 19th. Next up tho - some pyjamas cricket.
