Railway Union 2 v North Kildare Cricket Club Men's 1st XI on Sun 26 Jun 2011 at 1.00
North Kildare Cricket Club Lost By 74 Runs (2/25pts)

Match report The 1sts winning run came to an end on Sunday in a disappointing 74 run defeat away to Railway Union. Captain Satchwell lost the toss and Union decided to have a bat first on a pitch that played pretty slow with not much in the way of bounce or carry. Given the pitch and slow outfield Railways total of 203 looked half decent but it certainly wasn't the kind of target that NK would be afraid of. The 1sts were a bit disappointed however to be chasing this target having had the oppo in serious trouble at one stage on 126-7. Railway no.7 Coburn and no.9 Ghurve put on 76 for the 8th wicket helping their side to their respectable total. It was a pretty solid performance from Kildare in the field throughout the innings, the only downside/regret being some less than stellar bowling at times, particularly during the aforementioned partnership. Nothing about Manjeet Singh's (10-1-21-4) effort with the ball was less than stellar however. He had the oppo in knots and looking utterly clueless at times. Satchwell was next best with very solid figures of 10-0-34-2 including an excellent 3 over spell during the oppo powerplay.

With the bat NK let themselves down badly however and really made a dogs dinner of chasing down what was an imminently gettable target. Only Waslhe (32) and Wasif Ali (20) reached double figures. After the early loss of Neavyn, Walshe and Singh consolidated and took the score on to 43 before Singh fell. Walshe and Satchwell added another 25 before NK lost the big wicket of the in form Walshe and when Satchwell was run out in the same over things began to look less than rosy at 68-4. The 1sts never really recovered after this despite a glimmer of hope emerging in the shape of big-hitting Wasif Ali who spanked a quickfire 20 before he was bowled and with that wicket the game was up.

YMCA at home on Saturday next. I'm gonna state the obvious now: NK will be looking to get back to winning ways in that one.
