Malahide 3 v North Kildare Cricket Club Men's 1st XI on Mon 06 Jun 2011 at 1.00
North Kildare Cricket Club Won By 156 Runs (25/25pts)
Match report
On a cold and windy day in Malahide, North Kildare won the toss and without much hesitation decided to have a bat and make first use of what looked, and proved to be, a very good batting track. Missing a few regulars from the bowling attack, Kildare knew they would need every run they could get.. Ian Walshe in particular it seemed as he set about putting together a simply superb innings, a watchful first 50 was followed by a another 100 runs to rack up a score of 151. When we was eventually run out. No ball that strayed off a good line and length went unpunished in what was a brilliantly disciplined and well paced knock. Rob Neavyn was his opening partner and he also went by 50 in what was a brilliant opening partnership, Rob fell on 57 to a ball that doesn't deserve a whole lot of talking about, he was unfortunate to slap it to backward point but again a good job done, setting the team up for a big score. Manny, Tom, Dutchy, Gary, Gareth and Nige all came in to contribute by continually getting bat on ball and running the fielders ragged.. A very good team batting display gave us a very good score of 316-7 after the 50 overs.. job one done well!
Kildare started well with the new ball, keeping things tight.. After the experienced opener, Gilmore survived a few close shaves it was his partner who fell first, trying to clip Nige away on the leg side only to get a leaning edge which looped into the covers where Barra took a brilliant full length catch! Just the start we needed.. The nO.3 then tried a few expansive shots and then drove a ball off Nige straight up into the air into Greg Withey's safe hands.. 2 down but Gilmore was being dogged and wasn't about to give his wicket away. He was joined at the crease by the Malahide skipper who proved resilient and looked comfortable also. The two put on a stand of over a hundred and at drinks the game was very much in the balance at 140-2.. In the first over after drinks however, Gilmore, now on 70, clipped one straight to Gary at straight mid-wicket off Manny's bowling. Wickets began to tumble with Manny picking up another and Rob picking up two, good reward for a tidy spell of bowling. After Tom ran out the number 8, the ball was thrown to Nige to try and clean up the tail.... None of us (including himself) however, thought it would only take three balls! After stitching Brown up lbw, he preceded to find the edge of the no.10s bat, Gordy took the catch.. Hat Trick ball,. with the batsman surrounded Nige decided he wouldnt leave it to any of the fielders to help as he instead rattled Gibbon's stumps to clain both a Hat Trick and 5 for. Well bowled.. Manks, the captain was left not out on 56 and Malahide were all out for 160..
So, all round a very good display from North Kildare who welcome Laoise down to The Maws on Saturday as they try to continue their ascent of the division 4 table.. Bring on Laoise!
