Rush 3 v North Kildare Cricket Club Men's 3rd XI on Sun 02 May 2010 at 1.00
North Kildare Cricket Club Won Won by 5 wickets.
Match report
The Thirds continued their recent superb form by notching their third win on the trot. Winning the toss, Barra asked Rush to have first use of their mat. Cameron (8-2-33-4) got things started by bowling an opener, Quinton (8-1-32-0) in the unusual role of opening bowler bowled well from the other end. The spin twins of Gary (8-2-31-0) and Barra (8-0-25-1) were first and second change and it was Barra who got the breakthrough when he had Rush batsmen Coughlan stumped by Eamon. Next wicket to fall was courtesy of Cameron's great throw from wide Mid-off to Barra at the bowler's end. Amongst all of this Rush were ticking along relatively well mainly thanks to R. Malik who after playing and missing a million times managed to close his eyes, swing and connect with a few shots. He was eventually bowled, playing accross the line one to many times, by debutant Paul Mc Grievy (7-0-33-2) who bowled a good line and length when it was exactly what was needed. Young Dáire bowled with no luck but Cameron came back to pick up a few more and there was another run out from Paul. Eventually Rush finished their 40 overs on 186 for 9. A good score but on a good mat and with short boundaries the Thirds knew that they could chase it if they batted well.
Barra and Quinton opened as is traditional and is traditional they put on 50+ for the first wicket. Quinton fell for 32 when he was unlucky to hit one straight to point to be well caught by a young McCallister. Paul was next in and he and Barra put on 20 odd until Paul was out L.B.W. for 9. Gary was next in and out when he popped one back to the bowler for the dreaded blob. Cameron was next man in and after a stern talking to form skipper Baz he agreed that because we were expierencing a little wobble it was important for him to bat sensibly...so he hit his first ball for 4 over mid-on and was dropped second ball at mid-off. He went on to get a very important 19 off 11 balls including a big 6 over mid wicket. He was out bowled by a good one from young leg spinner Monks. During all of this Barra was going about his business at the other end. He was joined by Eamon Goodfella (sic). With the run-rate at 4.5 an over Barra and Eamon kept it at over 5 by running hard and hitting the bad ball for 4. Hard running was eventually Barra's down fall when he tried to sneek one past to bowler to be run out for 49 by a sharp bit of fielding from mid-on. Derek Tucker strode to the middle with 30 odd still needed off about 6 overs. He a Goodfella (sic) didn't hand about with Eamon lashing and straight six and Derek finishing things off by smashing one ball on to the road and the very next one for a walk off, pavilion roof hitting 6! The thirds had very comfortably chased 186 for 5 for a great win. A vastly improved fielding performance was a big part of the win but the thirds know they're up against it in their match a week after next away to high flying Terenure.
